FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BARRY MOORE CANCELS TROY MEET & GREET EVENT ON TUESDAY, MARCH 17TH, “THIS IS JUST COMMON SENSE, NOT A REASON TO PANIC”
Enterprise, AL–AL-2 Congressional candidate Barry Moore has canceled a Meet & Greet event in Troy, Alabama. The event was scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th at 5:00 PM at Horn Beverage Company, 104 Industrial Blvd in Troy.
Moore has scheduled a Facebook Live Stream event to replace the Meet & Greet, also at 5:00 PM Tuesday, March 17th on his campaign Facebook page @BarryMooreforCongress.
The campaign is rapidly moving to an online grassroots strategy to continue to reach out to voters across AL-2 without the risk associated with large gatherings of people.
Several other events and venues have been in touch with the campaign to cancel or reschedule, and the campaign is working to accommodate these requests. Notifications of cancellations as well as schedules for alternative events such as live streams will be posted on Facebook as they become available.
Barry Moore said in a statement:
“I love to meet people face to face. The best part of this campaign has been traveling across District 2, meeting and talking to everyday people about what’s important to them and why I think I’m the best choice to represent them in Congress next session. It’s what we’ve been doing, and it’s worked well because people like to know who they’re voting for.
“Now, we have to do something different. On Sunday the CDC recommended canceling or postponing events or gatherings of more than 50 people. Today (Monday) the White House asked people not to gather in groups of more than 10 for the next 15 days, so that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to follow these guidelines, so most of our face to face events will be canceled for now.
“This is just common sense, not a reason to panic. We’ve already moved away from handshakes, so not holding political events where our supporters might be at risk of getting sick is the smart thing, the right thing to do.
“We’ve had a great social media presence during this campaign, and we’re going to ramp that up. We’re going to be doing a lot of live streams on Facebook so people can still get to know Barry Moore and where I stand on the issues without risking their health.
“Right now, we don’t know if the primary will be delayed or not, but we’ll keep everyone updated on Facebook with the best information we have. In the meantime, we’re going to continue spreading our message safely, and that includes cutting way back on our in-person campaign events.”
As of 3:10 PM, March 16th there were 22 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alabama, with 0 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins real-time tracking site. Numbers are expected to rise as more test results become available.
Barry Moore is a Veteran, a small businessman, and a husband and father of four children from Enterprise. He will be in the Republican runoff election currently scheduled for March 31st.
