BARRY MOORE SAYS SUPREME COURT RULING IN LOUISIANA ABORTION CASE “UNDERSCORES THE NEED TO REELECT THIS PRESIDENT SO HE CAN APPOINT MORE TRUE CONSERVATIVES TO THE COURT”
Enterprise, AL–AL-2 Congressional candidate Barry Moore expressed his disappointment over Monday’s Supreme Court ruling in June v. Russo.
The Supreme Court ruled in favor of protecting abortion rights in the case, which called into question the constitutionality of a Louisiana law that mandated abortion clinics have admitting privileges in hospitals within a 30-mile radius. Had the Court supported the Lousiana law, it would have winnowed down the number of abortion providers in Louisiana to one.
The Court “found that conditions on admitting privileges common to hospitals throughout the State have made and will continue to make it impossible for abortion providers to obtain conforming privileges for reasons that have nothing to do with the State’s asserted interests in promoting women’s health and safety.” The four typically liberal justices–Bryer, GInsberg, Sotomayor and Kagan–were joined by Chief Justice John Roberts in the 5-4 decision.
Moore said in a statement:
“I’m disappointed, especially in Chief Justice Roberts, for this blatantly political decision. The Chief Justice held the opposite opinion just four years ago when a virtually identical Texas law was before the court. Now it looks like he’s changed his opinion purely to keep the coastal elites happy at the expense of the unborn, and those women who suffer complications during an abortion.
“This decision just underscores the need to reelect this President so he can appoint more true conservatives to the Court. Both of the Justices President Trump has appointed, Kavanaugh and Gorsuch, dissented from this liberal decision, along with Justices Thomas and Alito.
“Chief Justice Roberts continues to join the liberal wing of the Court on too many critical issues. We must reelect President Trump to ensure the next appointments to the Court are solid conservatives who will support the Constitution and the rights it gives to all of us, especially the unborn.”
Moore is a former member of the Alabama House, a small businessman, veteran, husband and father of four from Enterprise. He is on the ballot in the Republican runoff election on July 14th.
